Engineering Precision at 154 Metres
The installation of a structure of this scale at 154 metres above ground level required exceptional accuracy and planning. Every component needed to fit perfectly; any deviation would have created significant challenges once the crown reached its final position.
To ensure a seamless erection sequence, Bourne Steel carried out a full trial assembly at our South West facilities. This process:
- Recreated the exact rooftop footprint of the tower
- Simulated the restricted working environment at height
- Allowed all interfaces, tolerances and geometry to be verified and refined
- De‑risked the installation by resolving issues before components reached site
This ground‑level replication was essential in ensuring the crown could be installed safely, efficiently and without interruption.
Trial Assembly, Transport & Final Installation
Following successful trial erection:
- The crown structure and working trestles were dismantled
- All components were transported to London
- Bourne Steel completed the final installation and erection atop the tower
The result is a visually striking and structurally critical feature that defines Highpoint’s skyline presence.
